Why To Celebrate & How To Celebrate This New Start ?

What is the newness of the year? Where is the freshness of it? We know that we have been growing from our babyhood to adulthood. We did grow, and there was moment-to-moment newness in our life, and we know that we are becoming newer and newer every moment. If that is the case, what is so special about New Year? At one second past midnight on January 1, the day will changed from Saturday to Sunday, usually an unremarkable transition of no special significance. But somehow we've decided that this change, which will end one year and begin the next, is different.Why does the start of the New Year carry such special symbolism?

Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a pause, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. My teacher always says that New Year is a day, to tune the rhythm called SOUL, with best chords called EXPERIENCES and play the guitar called LIFE. Yes. This is the time to reflect upon ourselves, to review our mistakes and learn/unlearn from them.  Yes. This unique tick of the clock is to celebrate and to step outside the day-to-day activity we’re always so busy with—to reflect, to look back, take stock, assess how we did, and resolve to do better going forward.

New Year's Day is a fresh start; a new chapter in life waiting to be written; new questions to be asked, embraced, and loved; answers to be discovered and then lived in this transformative year of delight and self-discovery. New Year’s Day carves out a quiet interlude for yourself in which to dream, pen in hand. Only dreams give birth to change. This is the day when hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, and ‘it will be happier.'

This is the time to remember everyone who taught us, everyone who helped us. Let us say thank you aloud. The essence of all beautiful art is gratitude.

This is the time to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

This is the time to say Sorry. We lose nothing when saying a Sorry. But we revive a relationship. Apology can never bring back the tears that had fallen. It can’t even let one forget the pain that one had felt. But it will surely refresh a wounded pride and relationship.

This is the time to sit and think about our mistakes. The mistakes and the lessons learnt through various relationships, correct them and become a more matured Son/Daughter, Brother/Sister, and Father/Mother, a better friend, a better citizen and a better person.

The great miraculous bell of translucent ice is suspended in mid-air. It rings to announce endings and beginnings. And it rings because there is fresh promise and wonder in the skies. Its clear tones resound in the placid silence of the winter day, and echo long into the silver-blue serenity of night. The bell can only be seen at the turning of the year, when the days wind down into nothing, and get ready to march out again. When you hear the bell, you feel a tug at our heart. It is our immortal inspiration

How do we celebrate this new start? Why not we start this year with love? It does not cast us anything. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in making the world a better place. Think about a time when someone did something unexpected for you that brightened your day. Weren’t we a nicer person for the rest of the day because of that? Send someone a kind message. Give a small gift. Make something for someone. Tell someone how much they mean to you. There are so many ways to brighten someone’s day.

In this New Year, May Light always surround us. May hope kindle and rebound us; May our hurts turn to healing; May wounds become wisdom; May laughter infect us; May passion resurrect us; May goodness inspire our deepest desires; May our hands help others; May our mouth speak only good; May our heart love everyone and our arms only serve. Let us strive to make this world a better place to live in our own way possible. Let us spread kindness and love.
